Somatic Therapy: Trauma Healing (Mind, Body, & Spirit)
Somatic trauma therapy focuses on the mind-body connection in addressing and healing trauma. It recognizes that trauma is not only stored in the mind but also in the body (book recommendation: The Body Keeps the Score). This work aims to engage both aspects, allowing for radical transformations to occur in a relatively short amount of time. Below are examples of somatic therapy styles, most of which are weaved into my services. These interventions can offer immediate symptom relief, as well as the completion of a stress response (from a sympathetic trauma response to a calmer, parasympathetic nervous system state, AKA "rest and digest").
The main premise is to come back into your body through a process known as "Embodied Awareness." This restores the mindful awareness of bodily sensations, emotions, and physical responses associated with trauma, to better respond--instead of react--to stressful triggers/ life events.
